Toby O'Brien, Program Director

O’Brien has over 20 years of pro hockey experience in roles ranging from Head Coach to General Manager, Scouting Director to Player Personnel Coordinator. O'Brien was a founding member of the Eastern Junior Hockey League, was selected as the ECHL All-Star Head Coach while serving as Head Coach and GM of the Johnstown Chiefs in 2004, and has been involved with USA Hockey for many years, including coaching the Under-17 team to a gold medal in the 2005 Five Nations Tournament. A former goaltender, O'Brien has been part of the scouting efforts for the New York Islanders, Buffalo Sabres and Florida Panthers. He focuses much of his coaching on player development and pushing players to be the best they can possibly be. 

A former member of the coaching staff with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Ward has recently joined the Soo Greyhounds of the OHL. He's well-versed in player development, skill work, and using video to help players analyze their game. Prior to joining the Maple Leafs, Ward served in a similar role with both the Providence Bruins and New York Islanders under head coach Scott Gordon, and also spent a year as an assistant coach at the University of Rhode Island. Additionally, Ward has served on the Team USA coaching staff for two IIHF world championships. 

 

 

 

Macchioni has become one of the leaders in sports fitness training in the New England region.  Although he works with athletes preparing for the NFL Combine, Draft and many other sports through his Warwick-based NorthEast Sports Training (NEST) company, Macchioni has a strong reputation for hockey-specific training. He has been working with the Boston Bruins for more than a decade and also helps develop players in their system with the Providence Bruins. During the 2011-12 season, Macchioni trained at least one player from every NHL organization.
